Whatever you’re believing God for or looking to improve in your life personally – whether it’s your health, finances, getting more physically in shape, a betting job more in line with your goals, or even believing God to be married and have kids one day or find a father figure for your child – it’s important that you surround yourself with people and things that inject hope and faith in your spirit, and not fear and doubt. Some people mean well, it may even be a family member or loved one – but if every time you talk to them they have something bad to say about your situation or they go on and on about how it’s so hard to have kids the older you get or how it’s hard to lose weight the older you get since your metabolism slows down then they go on to tell you about Sally Sue who miscarried her first child or Jenny Lu who tried every diet in the book but can never seem to lose those 50 lbs, know that it’s okay to let your loved one know that you’d rather not hear about bad reports but instead would rather focus on faith.
Let them know nothing personal but that you just don’t want to hear that right now.
Instead of focusing on what he say, she say, momma ‘nem say, the media say or even some of these crazy reality shows say, focus on what God says about the situation found in his Word and stand on the testimonies of those you know personally who overcame a situation and found victory on the other side.
For example, in the back of my book, , I feature 12 married couples who were all abstinent with whoever they dated until marriage. I purposely shared their unique stories in order to give my readers hope and different perspectives.
I share the story of one woman who gave birth to her first child at 42.
Though many, including doctors, told her that her chances of getting pregnant were slim to none, she stood fast in her faith and believed that God was going to give her a child – she used no in vitro, no surrogate mother – just good ole fashioned faith. She, her husband and son are all pictured and share their testimony in the book.
Let’s say you’re believing God to lose weight.
Cut out before and after pictures of others who have done so to encourage you that if they can do it, you can do it, too.
A colleague of mine, Shelita Williams, author of How To Reign in Life, () shares how she lost a lot of weight and gained self confidence with women every where and shows them how they can do the same through her podcasts and videos. If you desire to lose weight, don’t continue to hang around people who have no desire to do the same and come up with every excuse how it’ll never be done and how they can’t make it to the gym for this reason or that reason. Follow others, like Shelita, who have overcome their internal struggles, go to the gym alone if you have to, because no one else is responsible for making your dreams become a reality but you and God.
No matter what it is, focus on faith.
Stay in God’s Word, meditate on Scriptures that pertain to what it is you’re believing God for, post them on your wall so you can see them consistently, and learn and be inspired by others who have achieved what your are looking to achieve.
Just like Jesus threw the people out of the room who laughed at Him when He told them Jairus’ daughter isn’t dead but is asleep (Mark 5:22 – 43) – you may need to kick some faithless folk out of your room, or shall I say not give them access to your ear so you can continue to stand and focus on faith for whatever it is you’re believing God to do in your life.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:4 |
